How Kidscient works
Kidscient is a parent's account with a coach inside it. You decide what each child can use. Curio, a cheetah-cub coach, does the daily teaching and homework help. You get a short, honest note about what happened.
1. You set it up, once
Create a parent account on the web or in the app. Before a child uses anything, we ask for a parent's permission with a card check, as the US children's privacy law (COPPA) expects. Paid plans do this at checkout. Free families get a 50¢ charge that is refunded the same day.
Add each child with a first name and grade. Any number of children share one plan. Sensitive features, such as anything that uses a camera, stay off until you switch them on for that child.
2. Curio finds your child's level, not just their grade
Grade is a starting guess. Curio asks a few friendly questions to see what your child can already do, then teaches the next step. A strong 3rd grader can move ahead; a 5th grader with gaps can fill them without feeling behind. This is how good math centers work too: Kumon by level, RSM by placement.
3. The daily session
Math lesson
Curio explains a step out loud while drawing it on the board, asks your child to try, listens to their reasoning, and adjusts. Every number, step and diagram is generated and checked by code, so the math is right.
Tonight's homework
Your child photographs the assignment. Curio lists what is due, then helps with each part by asking questions and giving hints. Your child writes the answers. Then "check my work" before it goes in the bag.
Reading homework
Your child reads the passage aloud while Curio listens and helps with hard words. For each question, Curio asks guiding questions until your child can say the answer, then helps them start the sentence. Your child writes it.
4. You get the note
After each session you see what got finished, what your child did on their own, where they needed help, and one thing to praise. For reading, you see words read correctly per minute and accuracy, alongside a line on phrasing, because speed alone rewards rushing. You can read the full conversation if you want to.
The rules Curio follows
- Hints, not answers. Research on high-school students found that an AI that gives answers raised practice scores but lowered exam scores, while a hint-only tutor helped without that harm (Bastani et al., PNAS 2025).
- Your child is always the author. Curio can suggest how to start a sentence. It never writes the thought.
- No pressure. No timers, streaks or "wrong!". Stopping early counts as finishing.
- Code owns the math. AI chooses the words; code checks every answer and step.
- Parents decide. Each feature is per child, and you can pause or delete anything.
Questions parents ask
How long should my child use it each day?
Does my child need to type?
Which devices does it work on?
Will my child see scores, streaks or a timer?
