Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Morrowbase LLC ("we", "us"), which makes Kidscient. Please read them with our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

Who can use Kidscient

Only adults can create an account. By creating one, you confirm you are at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of every child you add.
Children use Kidscient through a parent's account, on profiles the parent creates. A child may not create an account.
Before you add a child, we ask for your consent to collect and use your child's information as the Privacy Policy describes (see "Parental consent" below).
Kidscient is offered in the United States. If you use it elsewhere, you are responsible for following local law.

What Kidscient is

Kidscient is a learning companion for children. Its character, Curio the cheetah, is an AI (artificial intelligence), not a person. Curio's words are written by computer programs. Curio tells children it is an AI, and no person reads or writes Curio's replies in real time.
Curio helps children think through problems; it does not do homework for them. It can make mistakes. Please check anything important, and don't rely on Curio for medical, legal, safety or emergency advice.
Kidscient is not a teacher, tutor, therapist or emergency service. If a child says something that suggests they may be in danger, Curio gently points them to a trusted adult and, where it fits, to a crisis line such as 988 (call or text, US), and we tell you in your parent area. We don't contact emergency services. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.
Some features are not available to every family yet. We may add, change or pause features.

Before a child's information is collected, you complete a short consent step. It explains what we collect and who helps us run Kidscient, and asks you to agree.
When paid plans open, we also confirm that a parent is giving consent, as US law (COPPA) asks, with a card in your name. We'll tell you in the app before this applies to you:
Free plan: we charge 50¢ to your card and refund it the same day.
Paid plan: paying for the plan is the verification.
In the app, a plan bought through the App Store or Google Play counts as the verification.
We may ask you to consent again when what we collect or who receives it changes. Until you do, we may pause new AI sessions for your children; parts of Kidscient that don't use AI keep working.
You can withdraw consent at any time (see "Ending your account").

Plans, Curio time and payment

Plans. Kidscient has a Free plan and, once they open, paid plans (Family and Family Plus), billed monthly or yearly. Until paid plans open, nothing in this section can be charged. The current prices and the Curio time each plan includes are shown on the plan page before you buy. Any number of children can share one family plan.
Curio time is the time your children spend in parts of Kidscient that use AI. It is measured as active time in a session; long pauses don't count. Each plan includes a monthly amount for the whole family. Unused monthly time doesn't carry over. Parts of Kidscient that don't use AI are not counted.
Extra time. You can buy extra minutes (for example, 200 minutes). Extra minutes don't expire while your account is open and are not refundable once used.
When time runs out, a session that has started always finishes. After that, new AI sessions pause until your next monthly reset or until you add time. We tell you in the parent area and by email.
Founding-family price. If we offer a founding price, its amount, length and end date are shown when you subscribe. We remind you 30 days before it ends.
Automatic renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price shown when you subscribed (or the founding price while it lasts), until you cancel. Before you subscribe we show the price, how often you'll be charged, that the plan renews until you cancel, and how to cancel, and we ask for your agreement. When a web plan starts, we email you a confirmation with the plan, the price, how often you're billed, that it renews automatically, and how to cancel online (Apple and Google confirm App Store and Google Play purchases). Yearly plans: about 30 days before each renewal (never less than 15) we email you a reminder with the date, the price and how to cancel; for App Store and Google Play plans, Apple or Google send this reminder. If the price changes, we tell you at least 30 days before it applies, and you can cancel before then.
Cancelling is online and takes a minute. On the web: Plan and Curio time → "Manage subscription" → Cancel. In the app: your App Store or Google Play subscription settings (the plan screen links there). You don't need to call or email us. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
Who bills you. Web purchases are processed by Stripe. App purchases are billed by Apple or Google under their terms. We never see or store your full card number.
Taxes. Prices may not include sales tax where it applies.

Refunds

Cancel any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give partial refunds for the rest of the current period.
Genuine problems. If something goes wrong on our side (for example, Kidscient doesn't work for you for a significant time, or you were charged by mistake), email contact@kidscient.com. We may refund you, at our discretion, or add Curio time.
App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by Apple or Google under their own policies; we can't issue those refunds ourselves.
The 50¢ verification charge is part of parental consent, not a sale. It is always refunded automatically the same day.
Nothing here limits a refund the law gives you.

Your account and your family

Keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for activity on your account, including your children's use.
Give accurate information. A child's profile needs only a first name (or nickname) and a grade.
Parent areas are protected by a parent gate (your device's Face ID or passcode). Please don't share it with your children.
One account is for one household.

Acceptable use

You agree not to, and not to let anyone else:

use Kidscient for anything unlawful, harmful or abusive, or to create or share harmful content;
try to get Curio to produce harmful content, or get around its safety checks;
copy, scrape, reverse-engineer or interfere with Kidscient, or use it to build a competing service or train AI models;
upload content you don't have the right to share, or another child's personal information.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules or puts children at risk.

Content

Ours. Kidscient, Curio, and our lessons, stories, pictures and software belong to Morrowbase LLC or our licensors. You may use them for your family's personal, non-commercial learning while your account is open.
Yours. Your family's photos, recordings and work stay yours. You let us use them only to run Kidscient for your family, as the Privacy Policy describes. We don't use them for advertising, and our AI providers may not use them to train their models.
AI output. Curio's replies and pictures are generated for your family's learning. They may contain mistakes.

Privacy and safety

How we collect, use, share, keep and delete information, and your rights over it, are in the Privacy Policy. Every Curio reply in our launch modules is checked by an automated safety filter before a child sees it, and replies that can't be checked are held back. No filter is perfect; please tell us about anything that worries you at contact@kidscient.com.

Changes to Kidscient and to these terms

We work to keep Kidscient available but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change takes effect (sooner only where the law or safety requires). If you don't agree, you can cancel before then. Changes about children's information also follow the Privacy Policy's rules on asking for consent again.

Ending your account

You can delete a child's profile or your whole account at any time in the parent settings. Deletion removes your family's information as the Privacy Policy describes. Deleting your account cancels a web subscription first; App Store and Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled in the store.
Withdrawing consent works the same way: delete the child's profile, or email privacy@kidscient.com and we'll do it for you.
We may end or suspend accounts that break these terms. If we close Kidscient, or end your account without cause, we'll refund the unused part of any prepaid web plan.

Disclaimers and limits of liability

Kidscient is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
To the extent the law allows, Morrowbase LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim about Kidscient is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

Disputes and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us at contact@kidscient.com so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days. There is no arbitration: disputes are heard in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court.
